For some time now, Google has been considering a mobile version of your website to determine its position in mobile search results. It is therefore important to make your site responsive in order not to lose customers!
If someone searches for a certain product or service on his or her smartphone, only websites are displayed that are responsive (= have a mobile version). If your site is not responsive, you will not be shown in these search results and you will miss potential customers!
Which domain name extension to choose.
I personally believe that few people actually buy online. Mobile surfing is more experience, gaining ideas and inspiration etc… The effective purchase process still usually takes place on the laptop or computer because usually you have to pay with a bank card and the “bakske” and the smartphone is less suitable for that.
Optimal user experience on smartphone
But it is therefore very important to provide the visitor with an optimal user experience on his smartphone and therefore also to be visible in Google. During those few minutes that your potential customer is waiting on the bus, standing in line or sitting in the toilet, you should already be able to convince him or her. Afterwards, the purchase process or contact will be done through the normal way.
So be sure to surf to your own website and check whether it looks as good and clear on a smartphone as it does on your computer screen. If you constantly have to slide from left to right to read the text, it is not responsive and you lose customers!
However, you do not have to have a new website made to have a responsive website. With most websites it is possible to get the site responsive with some minor (or less minor) changes. The investment is then limited to the adjustments and not to a completely new site!
Practical example “Ward Lyppens garden landscaping”
Ward Lyppens has a thriving landscaping business, but his website was also not responsive. As a result, it was not found by people looking for a gardener on their smartphone (a search that many people undertake via their mobile!).
Based on a few major and minor changes to the layout, we were able to make the website fully responsive. The existing site was kept and did not change. Only those who surf to the site via a smartphone will see the difference: the website is now perfectly readable on all devices and provides an improved user experience . In addition, we also made sure that the telephone number is directly clickable, so that the visitor can contact us directly by telephone .
Homepage
On the left the non-optimized version, on the right the fully responsive version where, among other things, a hamburger menu was introduced and all text is optimally readable.
Contact page
On the left the non-optimized version, on the right the fully responsive version. The contact form is clearer and the text next to the checkbox is also legible. This makes the form much more attractive for the mobile visitor.
